Rev. W.L. Davis

Rev. Walter Lee Davis, 79, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be 11:00am until the 2:00pm funeral service on Thursday, September 22, 2016 all at First Assembly of God, Jackson located at 6339 Hwy 18 West. Interment will follow at Parkway Cemetery in Ridgeland. Walter L. Davis was born and raised in Malvern, Arkansas. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1955 and studied pre-pharmacy at Henderson State University from 1957-1959. He married Judith Faye Scott, of Malvern, Arkansas on August 15, 1958. Yielding to the Call of God on his life, in 1959 he and Judy moved to Springfield, MO, where he attended Central Bible College, graduating in 1962 with a B.A. degree in Bible. Bro. Davis was ordained at the Mississippi District Council on May 13, 1965. Bro. Davis’ first pastorate was Warner Spur AG in Camden, AR from 1962-1964. They then moved to MS and pastored First AG in New Albany, followed by Glad Tidings AG in Columbus, before serving as MS DCAP from 1970-1973. He also served as pastor of First AG in Macon, GA from 1973-1976 at which time he returned to MS, accepting the pastorate of First AG in Jackson, MS. Bro. Davis was elected as Assistant District Superintendent in 1978 and continued to serve in that position until his election as District Superintendent in 1987. It was during his tenure as District Superintendent that the current district office building was constructed and its dedication held on November 13, 2001. It was in November 2002, Judy, his wife of 44 years, went to be with the Lord. The Executive Presbytery in session in January 2003, officially named the chapel located in the newly built district office as the “Judy Davis Memorial Chapel”. After 22 years as District Superintendent of the Mississippi District Assemblies of God, Bro. Davis retired in 2009. On December 31, 2009, he married Eula Clayton and in September 2010 they accepted the position as pastor at First Assembly of God in Crystal Springs. Under his leadership, the church recently completed the construction of a new fellowship hall and numerous other upgrades and improvements to the church property. Brother Davis is survived by his wife; Eula, daughter; Lorie Hedgepeth (Jim) of Florence, sons; Mark Davis (Dawn) of Raymond and Scott Davis (Janice) of Laurel, seven grandchildren; Jerid Hedgepeth, Drew Davis, Cameron Davis, Avery Davis, Kaitlin Farrar (Matthew), Walter S. Davis, and Emily Davis, 2 great grandchildren; Loden Farrar and Davis Farrar. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mississippi District Assemblies of God District Office Development.
