Mr. Wayne Gentry

November 7, 1939 — March 9, 2016

Robert “Wayne” Gentry, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his home in Terry. Visitation will be 10am until the 11am Memorial Service Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Mr. Gentry was born in Smith County, MS to the late James Anderson Gentry and Velma Sullivan Gentry. He retired from Jackson Police Department in 1985 after 21 years of loyal service and was owner/operator of Gentry’s Body Shop in Jackson for 30+ years. Mr. Gentry was a member of Masonic Lodge #600 and coached his daughter Cindy’s girls softball team for four years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved animals, of which he had a K9 dog “Skipper” and had a special love for his present dog “Kelly”. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother John L. Gentry. Survivors include his wife of 56 years come this July, Jerrie Stewart Gentry of Terry; daughter Cindy Gentry Davis and her husband Michael “Scott” Davis of Terry; sister Betty Jean Pryor of Madison; nephews and nieces he helped raise as his own, Joe Gentry, Larry Gentry, David Gentry, Randy Herrington, Ricky Herrington, Mike Herrington, Suzanne Morris, Karen Smith and Karen Brown; grandchildren Chancee Lynn Davis and Gentry Scott Davis. Memorials may be made to Batson Childrens Hospital.
