Eugene (Gene) Garrett of Richland, MS passed away at his home on Friday, September 28, 2018 with his family by his side, following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 4, 1930 in Harrisville, MS to Earl and Cora Garrett. He worked at Stuart C. Irby Co. for 23 yrs and the City of Richland for 4 yrs. He served in the military during the Korean War. He was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Richland. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Minnie Malley Garrett, one son Wendell Garrett (Lynn) of Clinton, MS, one daughter Angelia Farris (Rick) of Richland, MS, 2 grandchildren who he dearly loved, Sam Garrett of Los Angeles, CA, and Haley Franks (Stevie) of Ridgeland, MS, his siblings, Peggy Barlow of Richland, MS, Agnes Tadlock of Florence, MS, Bill Garrett of Brandon, MS and Arlon Garrett of Mendenhall, MS and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Cora Garrett, his sisters, Linnie Pierce, Evelyn McClendon, Shirley Lyon, Catherine Garrett and his brothers, Louie Garrett, Aaron Garrett and Johnny Garrett. Pallbearers will be Carl Barlow, John Yoakum, Chet Dear, Eric Dear, Mark Malley and Matt Covey. All services will be Monday October 1, 2018 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. There will be a 10am-11am visitation followed by the funeral at 11am. His body will be laid to rest at Richland Cemetery in Richland, MS. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Alex Haick and Dr. Brooks Vance, also the staff at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS, especially his nurse Kim Thompson, she was wonderful.
