Wendle Lee Sistrunk, 70, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was surrounded by family, close friends and his pastor. Mr. Sistrunk had lived in the Jackson area for 60 years having moved from Sebastopol, MS after the death of his father in 1949. \ \ Affectionally known as "Poppy," his grandchildren were his only hobby and their happiness his main concern. He lived his life for others and found joy, fulfillment and purpose in selfless dedication to their comfort and well being. He retired from Southern Farm Bureau Life Ins. Co. in 1997 and worked part-time at Saturn of Jackson. He loved his God, his church, his wife, his family, and Ole Miss Football. In the words of his granddaughter Raquel, "He may have been small in stature, but no one could match his generosity, his warmth, or the amount of love he gave. The world lost a giant yesterday."\ \ He is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Lee and Annie Mae Sistrunk and his brother, Charles Sistrunk. Survivors include his wife, his true love of 48 years, Nancy Duran Sistrunk of Pearl; sons, Mark Sistrunk of Pearl and Scott Sistrunk (Karla) of Ann Arbor, MI and Pat Sistrunk of Jackson; brothers, Devon Sistrunk of Jackson and Jerry Sistrunk of Florence; sisters, Arlene Roberts of Jackson and Shirley Kemp of Carthage; grandchildren, Morgan, Haley, Darron, Raquel and Chase Sistrunk.\ \ Visitation will be 5-9pm Friday, September 18, 2009 and 10-11am Saturday, September 19, 2009, both at First Pentecostal Church of Jackson (5000 I-55 S). Funeral services will begin at 11am Saturday at the church followed by interment at Lakewood South Memorial Park. Chancellor Funeral Home of Byram is handling arrangements.\
