William "Bill" Eugene Ferguson

William (Bill) Eugene Ferguson, 71, a resident of Florence, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

Bill was a 1970 graduate of Forest Hill High School. He served in Air National Guard for six years. Bill was a master plumber and worked in the plumbing industry for fifty years.

Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jennie Kay Blair Ferguson. Bill and Jennie’s love story began when they met while watching their daughters’ (Melissa & Jessica) play softball. They were married on December 21, 1996. Together they had four children and ten grandchildren.

Bill and Jennie loved to spend with time with their family and enjoyed watching their grandchildren play ball, taking them camping, cooking crawfish, swimming and hanging out at their home in Florence. They both loved to travel, cook, garden, and can vegetables. Their travels took them to many favorite places, and they were planning their next adventure to Montana when Jennie passed away on February 26, 2018. Bill always enjoyed hunting and fishing, but especially after he and Jennie married. They took memorable camping trips to the Beagle Club to go fishing.   

Bill and Jennie had a deep selfless love of each other that was undeniable. Everyone knew that Jennie was the love of Bill’s life, and she adored him. Bill grieved deeply for his bride, and we believe God took him home to heaven early, to prevent any further suffering.

When we think of Bill, we think of how much he loved Jennie, his family, and friends. He loved to talk about the places Jennie and he had visited. Even after Jennie passed away, Bill found solace in spending time with his family, gardening, canning, and giving away his vegetables. Bill had a very large extended family, and he loved each and every one of them.  

We know Bill is happy again, because when he closed his eyes on this earth, he opened them in heaven and saw Jesus, and Jennie.

Bill Ferguson is survived by his children: two daughter(s) Melissa Ferguson (Jack) Harrison of Florence, Mississippi; Jessica Walters (Rick) Daniel of Bolton, Mississippi; two sons: Jeremy (Kim) Walters of Pelahatchie, Mississippi; Jonathan (Melissa) Walters of Florence, Mississippi; and 10 grandchildren: Keegan, Jackson, Hunter, Peyton, Hayden Wade, Logan, Aiden, Rose Marie, Mackenzie and Jonathan, Jr. Bill had one sister, Beth Ferguson Sullivan of Raymond, Mississippi.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Kay Blair Ferguson; parents, Fred & Juanita Martin Ferguson, both of Raymond, Mississippi, and one brother-in-law, Loyd Sullivan.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi. On Monday, July 24, visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am, followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at 11:00 am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi. A graveside service will follow immediately after the service at Richland Cemetery, Richland, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Daniel, Peyton Daniel, Hayden Wade Daniel, Henry Mills, Jacob Pearson; and honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Harrison, Aiden Walters, and Logan Walters.
