W. H. “Bill” Brown Command Sergeant Major U.S. Army Retired CSM W.H. “Bill” Brown, a 37-year resident of Pearl, MS, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 12th beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS, and again on Tuesday, August 13th from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home Chapel. Bill was born April 4, 1939 in Louisville, KY to the late Clarence and Hattie Brown, Sr. CSM Brown had a long-distinguished career during which he served two tours of duty in the republic of Vietnam, from 1965 to 1968. He received numerous awards and decorations to include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army achievement Medal, six Army good conduct Medals, two AR Reserve Comp. Achievement Medals, Two National Defense Medals, Two Vietnam Service Medals, The Army reserve Medal w/hourglass, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and the Magnolia Medal. Bill proudly served for 5 years as Commander of American Legion Post #1. He loved camping, fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathlyn Cole Brown; son, Mike Brown; stepson, John McGriff; daughter, Tammie Pittman; brother, J. R. Brown; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
