William Donald Goodman

William Donald “Goose” Goodman, age 81, of Byram, passed away Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.  He was born April 2, 1941, in Morton to Curtis Goodman and Doris Johnson Goodman.

Goose graduated from Pelahatchie High School in 1959, where he enjoyed playing basketball.  After studying and playing basketball at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, he joined the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era of 1960-1964.  In his four years of service, he was privileged to be in the honor guard.  After being discharged, he worked for Capitol Tobacco and later retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company in 2002.   He was an avid Ole Miss fan and enjoyed the New Orleans Saints and the New York Yankees.

Goose was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Julie Vickers; granddaughter, Grey Goodman; and his brother, Rick Goodman. 

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sue Goodman; his son Donnie Goodman of Mendenhall; his grandchildren, Lee Goodman of Webster, NY; Eli Goodman of Spring, TX; Taylor Powers of Mendenhall, MS; Elizabeth Goodman of Mendenhall, MS; and one great-granddaughter, Delaney Goodman of Cerro Gordo, Il. Also, survivors include a sister in law, Jean Goodman; nephews, Curt Goodman (Denet) and Paul Goodman (Schelle); great nieces, Morgan Purvise (Sam), Raven Calvio (Vince); and great nephew, Garrett Goodman; great great nieces, RileyAnn Purvise, and Olivia Young, and a great great nephew, Colton Young. Along with many friends and family including Sandi Brewer of Mendenhall, the mother of his children.

Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2023 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS from 5pm-7pm and Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10am-11am. A memorial service will follow visitation at 11am.
