William Waid Ross, fondly known as "Bill," passed away September 1, 2024. He was born on July 1, 1936, in Jackson, Mississippi to Joseph Jared Ross and Mary Louise Davis Ross.
He lived a life marked by dedication and passion, particularly for the cattle industry, where he devoted most of his professional years. Bill began his career at Quinn Brothers Stockyard in his youth, a pivotal moment that set him on a path he would follow with great commitment. His passion for the business led him to establish Ross Cattle Co. Inc., a venture through which he continued to contribute to the cattle community that was so integral to his identity. He was a longtime member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton where he loved his church family and was dedicated to serving others.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Bill was known for his love of dogs, especially red heelers, which he cherished as loyal companions throughout his life. Fishing was another passion that brought him joy and tranquility, offering a delightful escape into nature.
Bill's service to the nation in the United States Navy showcased his sense of duty and commitment, values that he carried through his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Louise Ross; two granddaughters, Genie Briggs and Emily Lockhart; and two great-grandchildren, Sadie Grace Taylor and Becket Ross Taylor. Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn H. Ross, and his two sons, Bill Ross, Jr. and David F. Ross.
