William M. “Bill” White passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016, in Encinitas, CA. Bill was born on June 1, 1927, the only son of William A. White and Irene Hill White. He was born and raised in the Brownsville community of Hinds County. He graduated from Hinds Junior College, Draughn’s Business College, and the LSU School of Banking. Bill served in the US Navy from May 1945 until September 1946. He was a well-known South Jackson banker, mainly serving as branch manager/vice president for the Appleridge Shopping Center and Byram Terry Road branches for Bancorp South, retiring from Bancorp South in 1992. He assisted many South Jackson customers with personal and business loans. He loved helping others and went out of his way to make sure his customers, friends and family were taken care of. Bill was a long-time member of Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson, and was active for many years in the Civitan Club and other community organizations. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on cars, and buying and selling cars. He enjoyed traveling with his wife across the country with their recreational vehicle after his retirement. Bill’s devotedly and lovingly cared for his wife of 61 years, Faye Turner White, during her long illness. After her death in 2010, he moved with his son’s family to Hudson, FL and later to Encinitas, CA. He was loved by his fellow seniors and staff members at the Atria Senior Living homes in both locations, where he served as President of the Resident Councils and as a Resident Ambassador and advocate for residents and staff alike. Bill was preceded also in death by his parents, William A. and Irene Hill White; sister, Edith White Burney, and his nephew, Dr. Stephen A. Burney. Survivors include: sister, Elsie Smart of Camp Springs, MD; son, Jeffrey T. White and his wife Cindy of San Diego, CA; daughter, Valerie Faye White of Jackson, MS; grandson, Zachary White of San Diego, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom were very special to him. The family is grateful for the love and support from so many in the Jackson community who fondly remember Bill; and to the staff of Atria Senior Living and Art of Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Visitation will be 5-8pm Friday, November 11, 2016 and 10am until the 11am funeral service Saturday, November 12, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS.
