Mr. William J. "Bill" Kelty

William J. “Bill” Kelty passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 after a brief illness. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 11 am Wednesday, September 18 in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to service time. Bill was born in Louisville, KY on July 7, 1936 to William R. Kelty and Mary Rose Haley and lived there until at age 12, his parents moved to Jackson, MS to work for the Sears, Roebuck company. Bill attended Catholic schools, participated in both football and baseball while in school, and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1954. After graduating from high school, Bill enrolled in Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN and pursued a degree in Accounting/Business. He graduated from college in 1958. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, undergoing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in both active and reserve capacities. He was Honorably Discharged from Military Service in 1963. As a Certified Public Accountant, Bill worked in various areas of accounting including as a staff accountant for a Big 10 firm; and for local CPA, A.N. Morgan, his mentor; and as the Comptroller for the Catholic Diocese of Jackson. Bill eventually began his own accounting practice, conducting audits and setting up computer based accounting systems for a diverse group of clients. Bill is survived by the wife he loved and adored, the former Mary Joan Aulenbrock, whom he married in June 1959; by their Nine children and respective spouses, Stephen Kelty; Karen Kelty-Cheatwood & Randall; Suzanne Kelty-Bradley & Corwin; Mark Kelty & Christina; Beverly Kelty-Simmons & Eddie; Patrick Kelty & Delia; Diane Kelty-Peters & Skip; Terri Kelty-Barnett & Brad; John Kelty & Nikki. Grandchildren: Joshua, Anna, Scott, Kristen, Adam, Tyler, Lauren, Mary, Samantha, Haley, Allyson, Hannah, Ava, Cody, and Emilee; Great Grandchild: Alayna.
