Willie Tanner Corkern, 86, died Friday, April 21, 2017 at her home in Pensacola, Florida. Visitation will be 10am until the 11am funeral service Monday, April 24, 2017 at Siwell Road Church of Christ in Jackson. Interment will follow at Lakewood South. Mrs. Corkern was born August 31, 1930 to Wallace Matthew and Myrtle Hord Tanner. She graduated from Raleigh High School and moved to Jackson where she married Russell Homer Corkern on April 7, 1950. They had four sons and a daughter born from 1951 to 1961. She was a life-long member of Siwell Church of Christ and its predecessor, Belvedere Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell Homer Corkern; sisters, Winnie Tanner Yelverton, Wilma Tanner Gunter, Winsel Tanner Walker; sons, Charles Phillip Corkern and David Russell Corkern. Survivors include her sisters, Doris Tanner Frazier and Gloria Tanner Pace; two sons, Donald E. (Debby) Corkern and Bruce (Rhonda) Corkern; daughter Carolyn (Mark) Williams; grandchildren, Donny Corkern, Doug Corkern, Mandi Huff, Amy Pieralisi, Laura Roublick, Jon Williams, Josh Williams, Jake Williams, Beth Rodgers and Brad Corkern; great grandchildren, Dylan Corkern, Jack Corkern, Charlyte Scarf, Joseph Corkern, John Corkern, Skylar Duncan, Jayden Huff, Russell Pieralisi, Brooklyn Roublick, Christian Roublick and Greyson Rodgers. A loving mother, grandmother, wife, and sister, Willie Tanner Corkern loved life and spent her life giving to others. She enjoyed music, cooking, gardening, and fishing and was the epitome of a gentle lady. She leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of Christian service. While she will be mourned, she passed on in a peaceful way surrounded by her daughter and the friends and family she cared so much about. She is now walking the streets of gold in a heaven she so richly deserved. She will never be far from our thoughts.
