Wilson “Ray” Thacker was born on April 18, 1938 and was a lifetime resident of Harrisville, Mississippi. He left this world peacefully at home on April 19, 2017 at the age of 79. He was retired from Exide Technologies and an active member of Harrisville United Methodist Church. He was an honest, hard-working, god-fearing man and the locals could attest to him having the kindest smile you’d ever seen. He was a dear friend to so many. Ray, “Poppy,” was a family man and he lived each day of his life to the fullest. He spent most of his retirement outdoors and most days he could be found in a fishing boat, or on a tractor, or in the garden. He touched the lives of everyone around him and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Ruth Thacker. Survivors include two brothers, John Thacker and his spouse of Bonaire, GA and A.C. Thacker of Harrisville, MS; daughters, Darlenia Andrews and Carlia Rushing and their spouses; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation services will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Harrisville United Methodist Church in Harrisville, MS on April 22, 2017. Visitation at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11:00am. Graveside service will immediately follow at the Harrisville Cemetery.
